How is Louis Doing Today?

Well, Louis has been having a time over the last few weeks where his throat was constricting, and he periodically could not get food down. This progressed to where he was very selective in what he could eat, and how he will eat. From here it went to the point where he could barely eat at all.

This Monday it became too much to bear, and finally an ENT consultant found a mass in his throat. Louis had been complaining of something stuck in his throat for some time.

On Monday night he came to the doctor, and they admitted him to the hospital, Baylor Irving. A biopsy was performed and found to be cancer.

At this point a tracheotomy was performed to ease his breathing. This alone caused a marked improvement in his color that had been somewhat pasty, and pale. Now he was pink and healthier looking.

So the plan at this point- a radiation oncologist, and a chemo oncologist are looking over everything, and the next step is a PET scan to determine if there is lymph node involvment. This should be known next week. The best option seems at this point that if Radiation, and Chemo can be started at the same time, this would seem to be an indication that the mass is small enough to radiate.

Right now he is in the ICU, and even as we type he is having a tube put in for nourishment. He has lost a fair amount of weight, and this will stabilize his nourishment. Since he is in ICU right now, visitors are a bit more limited. He will shortly go to a regular room, at which time he will then shortly go on home.

I started this for good- frequent updates, for all of his friends, and family from near and far. We will post all the stuff here, sometimes it will be not as good, but most often it will testify to the strength of our ultimate physician.
